Battery Engineer

Full Time (El Segundo, CA)

Apply

Electric Goddess, a battery consulting and R&D firm in El Segundo, CA, is hiring a Battery Engineer to turn client questions into test plans, data, and decisions — part engineer, part scientist, part project lead.

Job Description

Electric Goddess is a battery consulting and R&D firm in El Segundo, California, dedicated to advancing innovation, safety, and performance in the rapidly evolving energy storage industry. We believe it matters what we do and what we make: the best battery is the one nobody ever has to think about, and making that true is the work.

This is a rare role: equal parts engineer, scientist, and project lead. You'll work as the technical right hand of the leadership team, turning client questions into test plans, test plans into data, and data into decisions with principal judgment support.

Role Summary

You'll support R&D, create technical plans, and coordinate client projects. Important: you write things down. You'll document methods and findings, build processes where none exist, and create new systems that help the whole company run more efficiently. This role suits someone who is deeply technical and genuinely enjoys structure, computer and lab work, and client interaction. If you've ever built an SOP nobody asked for to make sense of the chaos, keep reading.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create test plans matched to client program targets and Electric Goddess methods
  • Coordinate technical client projects
  • Support R&D projects hands-on in the lab
  • Document everything: methods, findings, decisions, and the reasoning behind them
  • Communicate findings to clients through reports and walkthroughs
  • Build and improve internal processes and systems that make the lab and the business run better

Required knowledge and experience

  • Experience in electrical, mechanical, chemical, or materials engineering, or a related battery field
  • Hands-on experience with batteries or energy systems: cells, packs, testing, or integration
  • Excellent technical writing: clear, complete, and usable by someone who wasn't in the room
  • Process-builder mindset: you create structure and documentation instinctively, not reluctantly
  • Confident client-facing communication, comfortable presenting findings and listening
  • Detail-obsessed, with the judgment to know which details matter

Impress us with additional knowledge and experience

(Nice-to-have already, or willingness to self-educate)

  • Battery test lab experience: abuse testing, characterization, or frontier new tech
  • Failure analysis or forensics exposure
  • Technical vendor and supplier management experience
  • Programming and data skills (Python or similar) for processing and presenting test data
  • Experience creating SOPs, systems, or lab infrastructure from scratch
  • Experience with challenging projects and/or ultra-hard vacuum

Physical Requirements

  • Located in the Los Angeles area with the ability to work onsite in El Segundo
  • Comfortable that batteries involve risks such as fire, electrical shock, and chemical exposure
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 14 kg (30 lb)
  • Able to travel for fieldwork, vendors, conferences, and client site visits

working at electric goddess

  • Full time, onsite in El Segundo, CA, with periodic travel
  • Reports to and works daily with the Chief Scientist and founder; small senior team, real ownership from day one
  • The work swings between deep technical focus and client coordination, often in the same day
  • Pay: $105-140k salary
